Laura Elise Muller (LEM)
A current student in the HSAD Jewellery Essentials Certificate Program, I grew up in Hamilton and went to art school in Dublin Ireland, followed by McMaster University. It was at Haliburton School of Art + Design that I learned the art of stone carving and am now a part-time summer faculty member. I have been a stone sculptor since 2001, carving a variety of stones such as Marble, Alabaster, Limestone, and Granite. My work ranges from small pendants to large sculptures for gardens and for public places. My limestone ‘Connections’ greets visitors to the Dorset ON Community Health Hub and my granite ‘Attunement’ is in the permanent collection at Kingsbrae Garden in St. Andrews NB after winning the Canadian Sculpture Competition in 2018. My limestone ‘Dancers’ was purchased and donated to the town of Fergus ON in 2020. I have displayed sculptures downtown in the Elora Sculpture Project and the Downtown Haliburton Sculpture Exhibition. I have also participated in the Collingwood Art Crawl as well as the Huntsville Art Crawl. I save every viable piece of stone that I have chiseled off my sculptures to turn into jewellery and teach workshops with.
I live and work at Stone Tree Studio in Muskoka with my partner, furniture maker Cirvan Hamilton.
